PoE does not change the Cat6 distance rule — it is still 100 metres per cable segment, per TIA-568.

Why 100m, not "as far as it works"

Beyond 100m, both data timing and PoE voltage drop get risky. A 15W camera at the far end of a long run can arrive under-powered and reboot. Keep runs at or under 100m and you stay inside spec.

Three ways to go past 100m

Fiber + local PoE switch: run fiber to a remote PoE switch near the cameras, then Cat6 the last 100m to each one.
Second switch / midspan: place a switch at the 100m mark and start a fresh 100m segment. (A midspan injector alone does not extend distance — it still obeys the 100m rule.)
Wireless bridge: for job sites and open ground, a wireless bridge carries the signal kilometers without cable, then PoE the final drop.

Plan the pull

Buy Cat6 in a 305m box and measure each run before cutting. Keep a spare 10–15% on every length for risers and bends.
